Len and Chris Bierbrier traveled to Ghana, Africa in 2017 as part of Chris’ work as the founder of Routes to Africa, a NGO dedicated to providing assistance to enable young African women in Northern Ghana to attend secondary school and college.
In preparation for their visit, they discovered that no hospital in the region (with a population of more than 1.2 million people), had a defibrillator and they saw the opportunity to make a difference by providing this device to the Bolgatanga General Hospital.
Bonaba Baba Salifu, His Royal Highness, and Chairman of the Ghana Health Service Regional Hospital acknowledged this generosity in a note pointing out that patients in cardiac arrest would now benefit from this device, whereas before the prognosis was dim because the closest unit was a teaching hospital 120 kilometers away.
